$400,000 from the Living Libraries Program
$250,00 from the Community Support Grant
$57,500 from the Public Safety Infrastructure Fund
The Warrandyte Community Centre (WCC) is located in Yarra St, within the heart of the retail precinct of Warrandyte and was built by Council in 1991 to replace a building formerly occupied by a number of community groups.
As a result of the Manningham Library Review 2010, Council is undertaking a $2.4 million refurbishment of the community centre that incorporates a new branch library, to increase community use of the facility and develop a vibrant community hub.
During the 12 month construction period, tenants (including the Warrandyte Neighbourhood House, Information Warrandyte, Warrandyte Diary and Warrandyte Lions Op Shop) and a number of regular users of the building have been required to vacate the premises and Council officers have assisted all tenants in securing appropriate temporary facilities to meet their service and operational requirements.
During the refurbishment the entire site has been closed for public access, including the car park at the rear of the community centre. Demolition works are now complete and building works have commenced and the anticipated completion date is July 2013.
The Warrandyte Library will continue to operate out of the current shop front location in Melbourne Hill Road until the refurbishment works are completed and officers have ensured that the Library Corporation, as all other tenants, are involved in all key consultation and communication activities associated with the design and operational planning of the centre.
