We’re upgrading Fitzsimons Reserve in Templestowe.
The upgrade includes:
- mountain bike flow trails for all abilities
- new skills pad for riders
- new canoe launch ramp
- extra parking
- more tree planting
- new furniture and updated signs.
When is it happening?
Works start late February and are expected to be completed in May. Improvements to parking, furniture and signs will take place during this time.
Tree planting will take place mid-2026.
This schedule is subject to weather conditions.
How it might affect you
The reserve will remain open during works but car parking may be restricted. Alternative parking is available at Westerfolds Park Yarra River Picnic area car park.
Where is it?
Fitzsimons Reserve is located off Fitzsimons Lane beside the Birrarung (Yarra River), surrounded by Candlebark Park and adjacent to Westerfolds Park.

Why is it needed?
We're improving the Fitzsimons Reserve as part of our Parks Improvement Program. Our goal is to create spaces that are connected, inclusive and sustainable.
The new mountain bike flow trail is part of our 2025 Recreational Bike Facilities Plan.
These upgrades will also make the reserve easier to reach and help protect the natural habitats along the Yarra River.

The new mountain bike flow trails at Fitzsimons Reserve are now open and ready for riders of all ages and abilities. Designed to be welcoming and inclusive, the trails give our community a place to ride, build skills and enjoy the outdoors together.
As the first project delivered under Manningham’s Recreational Bike Facilities Plan, the trails are designed for everyone, from beginners learning the basics to seasoned riders seeking a challenge.
What’s available?
- Flow trails for riders of all skill levels
- A skills pad for balance and manoeuvre practise
What are flow trails?
Flow trails are specially constructed mountain bike paths that provide smooth and enjoyable riding. They feature gentle turns, rollers, and berms, making them fun and accessible to everyone.
- Rollers are small, rounded mounds that riders roll over to build speed without pedalling. More experienced riders may even choose to jump from one roller to the next.
- Berms are banked turns with a raised edge, helping riders move smoothly through corners, while maintaining traction and speed.
Safety and shared use
The facility is unsupervised and includes jumps and technical features. Please stay within your skill level, wear a helmet and protective gear, and respect other trail users.
What’s coming next?
Further improvements at Fitzsimons Reserve are planned for completion by May 2026, including:
- a new canoe launch ramp
- additional car parking
- tree planting
- new furniture and updated signage.
The reserve will remain open during this time, with some temporary car park restrictions.
As this is a shared space, we kindly ask that you please:
- keep dogs on a lead within 15 metres of the trails
- avoid smoking within 10 metres of facilities
- take your rubbish with you
- be considerate of other visitors.
