What’s happening?
We’re upgrading Fitzsimons Reserve in Templestowe.
The upgrade includes:
- mountain bike flow trails for all abilities
- new skills pad for riders
- new canoe launch ramp
- extra parking
- more tree planting
- new furniture and updated signs.
The mountain bike flow trails at Fitzsimons Reserve are for BMX and mountain bike use only.
Electric bikes, electric scooters and motorbikes are not permitted, as they can damage the trails. Visitors must also not build, modify or alter the trail or its features.
These rules help protect the trails and ensure they remain safe and enjoyable for everyone.
Council Officers are performing regular patrols of the Mountain Bike Flow Trails, and if non-compliance is observed, penalties will apply.
When is it happening?
Works start late February and are expected to be completed in May. Improvements to parking, furniture and signs will take place during this time.
Tree planting will take place mid-2026.
This schedule is subject to weather conditions.
How it might affect you
The reserve will remain open during works but car parking may be restricted. Alternative parking is available at Westerfolds Park Yarra River Picnic area car park.
Where is it?
Fitzsimons Reserve is located off Fitzsimons Lane beside the Birrarung (Yarra River), surrounded by Candlebark Park and adjacent to Westerfolds Park.

Why is it needed?
We're improving the Fitzsimons Reserve as part of our Parks Improvement Program. Our goal is to create spaces that are connected, inclusive and sustainable.
The new mountain bike flow trail is part of our 2025 Recreational Bike Facilities Plan.
These upgrades will also make the reserve easier to reach and help protect the natural habitats along the Yarra River.
