The roadway formerly known as Shaw Street within Tunstall Square is now closed and work has commenced on upgrading the streetscape in the new pedestrian plaza.
Works have started on upgrading the storm water drainage within the plaza and Beverley Street.
Drainage works are due to start in the central car park near Fella Hamilton and Dolce Mio next Wednesday 26 April. It is anticipated that six to eight car parking spaces will be unavailable for one week during this stage of construction.
Demolition of the existing road pavement has commenced and will be followed by works to repave the footpaths along the shop frontages. Works in front of all shops will be undertaken outside of business hours to minimise disruption to trade and for pedestrians.
The next stage of the works will include underground electrical works for public lighting and installing new high quality walkway paving.

The works to create this
public plaza space are part of a broader plan of streetscape improvements in
the west of the Tunstall Square Shopping Centre.
The public plaza will provide a place for the community to meet and
socialise and aims to encourage more pedestrian movement throughout Tunstall
Square.
The plaza will feature
paving, shade trees, public seating and landscape elements, and will provide
opportunity for community events and socialising space for centre visitors and
staff – see the artist's impression in the photo gallery.
Works are scheduled to
start on Wednesday 15 March and it
is expected that works will be completed by mid 2017.
The design for the public plaza has
been informed by consultation with the local community and traders in September
2016.
