Katrina Gully Reserve playspace upgrade
We're upgrading the playspace at Katrina Gully Reserve
This project is part of our Parks Improvement Program and will be delivered under our 2024/25 open space capital works program.
Construction to upgrade the playspace began on 1 October and the playspace reopened in November.
The final design can be seen here.
The final design includes:
- Large combination unit with slides
- Nature play area
- Triple swing set
- Seesaw
- Rocker
- Spinner
- A larger Basketball pad
- Outdoor fitness Area
- Expanded shade sail area and new trees
- Picnic table area

Where is it?
Katrina Gully Reserve is located on the Koonung Creek Linear Park in Doncaster. Its boundaries include Stanton Street to the west, Blossom Court to the north, Katrina Street to the east and the Eastern Freeway to the south. Please refer to our consultation flyer for the proposed location of the upgrade.

Three new shade trees are also scheduled to be planted in the 2025 planting season.
The project was delivered in November 2024 as part of our Parks Improvement Program and funded by our 2024/25 Capital Works Program.

The playspace will be closed while works are underway.
Construction will generally occur between 7.00am and 5.00pm on weekdays. There might be some noise and temporary changes to traffic around the reserve during this time.
The new playspace is expected to open in December.

Your feedback will help us to develop our final design for the playspace and make sure this reserve continues to meet the needs of our local community. We will share the final design for the playspace in September.
Here's a summary of the feedback we received.
The strengths of the playspace include its:
- Variety of play equipment
- Improved shade sail and facilities
- Nature play area
Your suggestions for improving the playspace included:
- Considering more junior play equipment
Additional items:
We received recommendations to include a BBQ area, lighting and a waterplay area, but this will not be explored due to limited budget.
Rebound wall.
In the concept design we explored the option of a rebound wall, but due to limited budget, its inclusion will not be possible at this time. The new basketball court pad will remain.
What’s next?
The final design plan is currently being created and will be available in September. Construction will take place in late 2024.

This feedback is critical for us to ensure that the upgrade will be valuable for the community.
We have reviewed all community responses to develop the updated concept plan for the playspace.
Some of the suggestions for improving the playspace included:
- ‘Fixing the shade sail’
- ‘Equipment too old and need some shade’
- ‘Expand the sitting area under the shade sail’
- ‘Upgrade of basketball court’
- ‘I would very much like to see a tennis wall’
- ‘Larger playground, bigger slides – more swings’
- ‘Water fountain for dogs’
We also received some recommendations to include a new BBQ, toilet facility, park shelter, lighting and flying fox, but due to the constraints of the site and the project budget, these suggestions will not be explored.

We'll seek a second round of community feedback about the concept plan in May 2024.
