Review of Onsite Wastewater Management Plan 2025

The Onsite Wastewater Management Plan 2025 is now open for public exhibition.

The draft Onsite Wastewater Management Plan 2025 (formerly the Domestic Wastewater Management Plan 2019) identifies the risks that septic systems pose to public health and the environment. It also outlines strategies to manage these systems into the future.

It aims to reduce the impact of domestic wastewater on our local waterways by supporting property owners to understand and meet their responsibilities. We also advocate for improved access to sewerage infrastructure where appropriate.

Since adopting our first plan in 2002, we’ve successfully advocated for the extension of sewerage services to Warrandyte, Templestowe, Wonga Park and Donvale. Yarra Valley Water is now designing sewer infrastructure for Park Orchards, with construction scheduled to begin in 2025/26.

The draft plan has been developed in consultation with key stakeholders, including Yarra Valley Water, Melbourne Water, the Environment Protection Authority and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.

Public exhibition is open until 5pm on Monday 18 August 2025.

Following public exhibition, the draft plan will be presented to Council to consider for adoption.
