Next steps for the Jumping Creek Road upgrade

We are pleased to share the latest updates on the Jumping Creek Road upgrade project, including the works we have planned over the next twelve months.

Recreational Trail construction

We are continuing to construct our recreational trail. In mid-2024, the last section of the trail will be complete, and the remaining trail connections will be finished as the main road works are undertaken.

Replacement of safety barriers and installation of pedestrian safety fence

In mid-June. we will begin replacing the safety barriers on the Jumping Creek Road bridge. In addition to the barriers, we will install pedestrian fencing on the north side of the trail at the bridge to improve safety for all trail users. The barriers and fencing will be painted green to minimise the visual impact and blend into the surrounding area.

Main road works construction and planning permit submission

We have commenced procurement of the main road works package. The first stage of works will be from Vine Crescent to Homestead Road (including the Township, Yarra Road footpath and Dudley Road footpath), and we anticipate commencing this in late 2024. Planning permit submission for these works will commence in the coming months.

Yarra Road and Dudley Road footpath upgrades

Late last year, we sought community feedback on the design of two proposed paths in Wonga Park. The first is a footpath on Yarra Road, between 368 Yarra Road and the Homestead Road roundabout, and the second is a shared path on Dudley Road, from number 3 Dudley Road to Wonga Park Primary School.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the consultation, we have considered all feedback submitted via Your Say Manningham and at our two public sessions.

Community feedback favoured using gravel instead of concrete to maintain a natural look. However, with a school, sports facilities and shops in the area, safety and accessibility are a priority for this path. Therefore, to maintain safety and accessibility while keeping the visual impact low, we will build the path using a concrete base underneath asphalt topping for a more natural look.

We are also happy to share that these two footpaths are now part of the Jumping Creek Road upgrade project, and will be delivered as part of the first package of the project, in late 2024 or early 2025.
