Safer Together is an initiative that involves local government, fire and state land management agencies working alongside the community in reducing the risk of bushfire on both public and private land. Managing bushfire risk is an ongoing and shared responsibility where everyone has a role. By engaging with communities, Safer Together's approach ensures that local communities are involved in decision making about bushfire management all year round – taking a place based approach to bushfire planning, this means understanding what communities care about most, recognising the expertise that exists within communities and working to determine local solutions to reduce bushfire risk.

In partnership with Safer Together, Council is conducting high level assessments within 50 of our public reserves that will establish risk mitigation approaches to reduce the risk of fire. Fuel management reserve tours within three identified high risk reserves will be held in partnership with fire and land management agencies. Tours will provide community members an opportunity to inspect reserves alongside members of Council and emergency fire services to discuss risk, Council's fire mitigation works, potential fire behaviour within the reserve, types of vegetation present and how the community can prepare private property for a bushfire event.

Have your say on what information is discussed during the upcoming fuel management reserve tours by completing this short five minute survey.
