Consultation summary - May 2024

In May, we held two consultation sessions for projects in Warrandyte and Wonga Park. Here’s a summary of the feedback and the next steps for these projects.

Projects in Wonga Park

On Monday 13 May, we welcomed 16 residents to chat about upcoming projects in Wonga Park.

Yarra Road and Dudley Road footpath upgrades (Jumping Creek Road upgrade)

Some community members expressed concerns about street parking issues. We anticipate these issues will be resolved at project completion. We’ll continue monitoring the issues to determine if any action is required.

Projects in Warrandyte

On Wednesday 8 May, we welcomed 41 residents to chat about upcoming projects in Warrandyte.

Mitchell Avenue drainage upgrade

We consulted on the concept design for this project. During our discussions, two residents requested to include kerb and channel, and consider including an additional property. We’re exploring these options and will provide an update as the project progresses.

Blair Street drainage upgrade

We shared the final designs for this project. One resident shared concern about the contamination and asked about the potential creation of wetland along Blair Street. We’re looking into this option and potentially incorporating it into the design.

Melbourne Hill Road drainage upgrade

We were available to discuss the project, but we didn't receive any comments or questions at the session.

Pound Road footpath construction, Heidelberg-Warrandyte Road to Naughton Avenue

We provided an update and shared the final designs for this project. In response to community feedback, we’ve replaced the concrete kerb with sandstone kerb to better blend with the surrounding area.

West End Road footpath construction, Taroona Avenue to First Street

We requested feedback on the concept design for this project. Out of the 12 respondents, all expressed opposition to the concrete path. Many preferred an asphalt path to provide a stable surface for strollers, while some suggested maintaining the current path and adding gravel. A few supported a combination of gravel and asphalt for different sections. We’re investigating this further. Our next steps involve sharing the design plans with affected residents and relevant community groups to seek further feedback.

Oakland Drive footpath construction

We sought your feedback to determine community support for this footpath. At the session, all 11 attending residents unanimously disagreed with the footpath. For this reason, we have decided not to proceed with this project.

Alexander Road footpath construction, from Heidelberg-Warrandyte Road to the rear of Warrandyte High School

Community feedback was supportive of the project. We’re currently conducting further investigations.

Our next steps involve sharing the design plans with impacted residents and relevant community groups to gather additional input.

Pedestrian Refuge at Russell Road, Mullens Road and Ringwood Warrandyte Road intersection

We consulted on the concept design for this project. Feedback highlighted concerns about the narrow width of the proposed footpath, speed limit and the use of the sandstone kerbs. Following this, we have refined the design in collaboration with the Department of Transport. The next step is to share this updated design with our community to gather additional feedback.

Our next consultation sessions on projects in Warrandyte and Wonga Park will likely be in late November.
