What will Council do with results of the survey?

We will use the survey results to show the state government why better bus services matter to our community and where improvements are needed.

Why are we focusing on buses when other areas have trains and trams?

Manningham is currently the only municipality in Melbourne without a train or tram. While we continue to advocate for long-term rail infrastructure, buses are our immediate priority.

A "high-frequency busway" would provide a fast and reliable service, similar to a train, using existing roads and at a lower cost.

I rarely use the bus because the routes are too indirect. Will this change?

Part of our advocacy priorities is to replace underperforming services with more direct routes. This includes a new connection from The Pines to Heidelberg Station and better routes that link Manningham to the future Suburban Rail Loop.

Will these upgrades help those of us who live further out in places like Park Orchards or Wonga Park?

Yes. While the busway focuses on the busy Doncaster Road corridor, our overall advocacy aims to improve the entire bus network. By making the main routes more frequent and reliable, we can strengthen the feeder services. This means improved local bus services that bring residents from outer suburbs, such as Park Orchards or Wonga Park, to these major hubs.

What is a "feasibility study" and how will it help?

A feasibility study is an assessment of a proposed project's practicality and likelihood of success, conducted before committing significant resources. The study would be able to show how feasible it is to design and implement dedicated, 24/7 bus lanes and priority at traffic lights so buses can bypass traffic, especially between Mitcham Station and Doncaster Park and Ride

With thousands of new homes planned for Manningham by 2051, will Manningham’s roads become more congested?

The planned growth for Manningham just highlights the importance of mode-choice for our community members to prevent congestion. By investing in a bus system that complements the convenience of private vehicles, we can maintain Manningham’s liveability even as our population grows.
