Calling all young people and their families!
Help us raise awareness for the mental health crisis that our young people are facing and help us call for a headspace in Manningham.
headspace is an Australian non-profit organisation that provides youth mental health services to 12-25 year-olds.
We welcome the recent Commonwealth Government commitment of $1 million a year for four years for a headspace service in the Menzies area. This commitment has come about following years of advocacy by council and the community.
However, it is not over yet! We want this service to be based here in Manningham, where we believe the demand is greatest and the impact most beneficial.
We currently have no headspace service in Manningham and need one for several reasons:
“Having a headspace in Manningham will ensure our young people can access mental health services without transport barriers,” said Mayor Cr Michelle Kleinert. We need to secure a dedicated headspace service in Manningham to support our young people, now and into the future.
What action are we taking?
We will deliver a range of activities to raise awareness of the issue and advocate for a local headspace service including:
Engaging young people in Manningham via an online survey
Meeting with the Manningham Youth Advisory Committee
Posting on social media
Raising awareness through print and digital newsletters
Locally distributing informational posters and flyers
Hosting information stalls in the community
We want to hear from young people and their families as we work with local youth, the Manningham Youth Advisory Committee, schools, sporting clubs and community organisations to develop and deliver a range of advocacy activities.
We need a strong case study for our community's demand for a local headspace.

Use the ideas board to share your thoughts. We may implement suggested advocacy ideas, so make sure you contribute to the discussion! Submissions close Saturday 2 July 2022.

Today, we had our second meeting with the Manningham Youth Advisory Committee (MYAC).
🧠 The young people of MYAC helped develop our Youth Mental Health advocacy campaign.
Here are some advocacy ideas they presented:
Distribute flyers with tips on how to improve mental health
Educate parents on mental health issues and how to support their young people
Using social media, tell young people "it's okay to seek help when you're struggling"
We will deliver these ideas and others suggested by our community.
🙋♂️ If you're a young person or parent/guardian in Manningham, then we want to hear from you too! Tell us how we should raise awareness for our lack of youth mental health services and advocate for a local headspace.
