Proposed improvements to Templestowe Route
During the community consultation in July 2023, we asked you to share any concerns you have around safety, quality of infrastructure and pedestrian connectivity on these roads.
Thank you to everyone who contributed. You asked us to:
- improve the quality of road infrastructure and ensure it’s better maintained.
- improve the safety of these roads, including address concerns around speeding.
- Improve pedestrian connectivity, including additional formal crossing points for pedestrians.
We’re pleased to share that the proposed upgrade will address many of these concerns.
In addition to the road, footpath and drainage improvements, we are advocating to transfer road ownership of the Templestowe Route from the Department of transport (DTP) to Council so we can better maintain the road and include road improvements within broader strategic planning for the area.
We’ll also explore opportunities to further improve connectivity with surrounding streets in other upcoming projects in this area.
We’re also proposing three additional improvements to address the above areas.
- We propose introducing two new roundabouts, at Atkinson Street and Milne Street, to prevent speeding, improve traffic flow and highlight the entrance to the Templestowe Village shops.
- We propose to also advocate for a speed reduction to 40km per hour between these two roundabouts to improve pedestrian and road safety.
- We also propose to advocate for a speed reduction to 50km per hour for the remainder of the route: Between Union Street and the roundabout at Milne Street, and from the roundabout at Atkinson Street to Porter Street.
- Finally, we propose to install pedestrian-operated signals at the intersection of Wood Street and Anderson Street, to connect pedestrians with the shops.
We want to hear your thoughts about these proposed solutions. Please tell us via this survey.
