Are the vision, objectives and priority areas the same in both the original strategy and the 2019 review?

The vision and objectives of the original strategy have been retained while the priorities have been reviewed and consolidated into four new priority areas as part of the 2019 review.

The draft Active for Life Recreation Strategy 2010-2025 (2019 Review) includes the following.

    Vision:

A healthier, more active community that participates in a diverse range of recreational pursuits of age, gender, ability and cultural background. Infrastructure, facilities, parks and programs will be inviting and accessible to the whole community who will enjoy improved health and wellbeing as a result.

    Objectives:

    • To increase participation in recreation in Manningham
    • To ensure the community has diverse recreation choices in Manningham
    • To provide great places for people to recreate in Manningham
    • To inspire people to participate in recreation in Manningham.

    Priority areas:

    • Provide flexible, multi-use and durable spaces for recreation to meet the needs of a growing community
    • Collaborate with key partners and organisations
    • Foster an environment of inclusion
    • Build capacity for our community to participate in sport and leisure.

How has the focus of the recreation strategy changed?

The focus of the original recreation strategy from 2010 is heavily focused on active living and active recreation.

The refreshed recreation strategy and action plan has considered the balance between active recreation and organised sport, to ensure organised sport is adequately addressed.

Statistics show that 70% of physical activity in Manningham is through active recreation, with organised sport representing 30% of participation.

The sport/activity I represent or am interested in is not specifically listed within the draft strategy?

The Active for Life Recreation Strategy provides a high level overview of organised sport and active recreation. This means that many sports and activities are not specifically mentioned within the document.

Please be assured that relevant actions within the Strategy will go into detail for each sport and activity, to address participation opportunities and facilities within the respective sports and activities.
