Active for Life Recreation Strategy background

  • The Active for Life Recreation Strategy (2010-25) was developed to enable Manningham to become a healthy and more active community.
  • Significant investment has enabled many of the original strategy’s key milestones to be achieved.
  • Since 2010 our population has grown by 11% and is forecast to grow an additional 14.9% by 2036.
  • Due to population growth and healthy living initiatives organised sport participation has risen including a significant increase in female participation in sport.
  • Our population is changing: we are more multicultural, people are living longer and lifestyles are becoming more sedentary with people feeling significantly time pressured.
  • National and State sport and health strategies are focusing on increasing physical activity levels amongst all age groups.
  • Refreshing the Active for Life Recreation Strategy (2010-25) enables us to reflect our changing community and better meet their needs.
  • Following research, data analysis and consultation to identify opportunities and challenges, 4 new priority areas have been determined. These priority areas focus on provision of flexible, multi-use and durable spaces, collaboration with key stakeholders, fostering inclusion for all and building community capacity.
