Why do we need this campaign in Manningham?

People don’t like to think that racism exists in 2022, however, it does.

It can happen at the supermarket, on public transport, at work, in educational settings and in other public spaces. People may make judgements based on racial stereotypes.

As a welcoming community, we each have our own role to play in unpacking bias and stereotypes within our individual diverse communities. We also need to report racism when it occurs. This campaign aims to normalise the conversation about racism, to counteract it.

    What is racism?

Racism is when you are treated unfairly or discriminated against because of your perceived cultural or faith background.

This includes someone making jokes, comments, or assumptions that are race-based. It may also include name-calling, harassment, physical or verbal abuse, property damage, or acting in any other way that makes you feel scared or worried for your safety.

It also includes someone leaving you out or treating you differently than they treat other members of the community.

Where can I report racism and find support?

Have you or has someone you know experienced racism or religious discrimination?
