Jenkins Park playspace upgrade

Thank you to those who have provided feedback on the Jenkins Park playspace upgrade and new public toilets. We have finalised the concept plan and work has now started. Most of the upgrade will be completed by the end of 2022. Minor works will take place in February 2023. Access paths through the reserve will remain open as much as possible. If temporary path closures are required, detours will be clearly sign posted.

Improvements will include:

  • New multi-age custom designed play unit
  • Triple swing set and spinner
  • Play stall and shop for younger children
  • Nature play options including rock and log edges
  • New seating, picnic table and drinking fountain
  • New shade sails
  • Path upgrades to the new toilets and playspace.

For more information about the upgrade, please contact Phyona McMahon on 9840 9333 or email manningham@manningham.vic.gov.au

Background

Through our Playspace Development program, this playground has been identified for renewal due to its age, condition and use. New playgrounds, compliant with Australian Standards are funded by the Capital Works Program. The local level, Jenkins Park playspace in Templestowe, will be renewed during the 2022/23 Financial Year.

The concept plan for the Jenkins Park playspace takes advantage of existing shade opportunities provided by mature trees and existing shade structures.

Drainage running down the hill and past the southern end of the playspace will in future be captured by a terraced rain garden. A small bridge bordered by rocks and groups of low-level shrubs and flaxes will lead into the playspace. All ability paths are proposed at either end of the playspace to allow ease of access.

A new centrally located picnic table will provide elevated viewing of both the playspace with additional seating located closer to the play equipment.

The combination play tower will cater for both junior and senior play featuring slides, climbing nets, monkey bars and elevated vantage points. A new play shop for toddlers and a spinner seat are also proposed.

New Public Toilet

The endorsed Public Toilet Plan 2021 proposed that a public toilet be installed along the Green Gully linear trail in Jenkins Park. The new modular building design will include the following features:

  • 1 Accessible cubicle, 1 Ambulant cubicle
  • Baby and child change facilities
  • Powered and natural lighting and ventilation
  • Doors clearly visible to the playspace and car park
  • Robust materials that are easy to clean

The toilet has been sited adjacent to the playspace and will have wheel chair access from the existing carpark
