Consultation has concluded
In response to easing COVID-19 restrictions, Council and the Victorian Government have invested $200,000 in an exciting new temporary pop-up park and activation program at Jackson Court to re-invigorate the local economy and connect our community.
This is more of a "village square" than a park - creating a place for people to meet in the centre of their local shopping area. This is more of a "village square" than a park - creating a place for people to meet in the centre of their local shopping area. This is part of a Neighbourhood Activity Centre Renewal project and developed as a public space with arts projects and place-making activities. In partnership with local businesses and the community, we will ensure everyone can share their ideas and help shape this vibrant community space.
The investment in this village square covers more than construction and includes activations such a live performers and entertainment. It also includes signage on roads and cycle ways pointing to Jackson Court, three significant commissions for local artists to work in the space with communities and schools, advertising and promotion, cleaning, maintenance and a COVID Marshall, and engagement and evaluation of the project.
Preliminary works began on Monday 23 November and the pop-up was completed by 3 December, 2020. The park will be trialled for five months and we will monitor and evaluate the use of the temporary space and review feedback to make changes to the park and activities as required.
Some traders have expressed concerns regarding the loss of car parking. We have listened and amended the footprint of the pop-up park by removing only 16 car spaces, instead of 23. These changes will ensure we meet the project objectives without compromising the terms of our funding agreement. Importantly, the objectives of the project will still be met by delivering benefits for the Jackson Court traders.
