Will the existing Basketball pad be upgraded?

As part of the Hillcroft Reserve playspace upgrade, the existing basketball pad will be refurbished. This will include a new basketball pole, backboard and ring, as well as new line markings to improve the play experience.

Based on feedback from the community consultation and the project’s budget, a major expansion of the basketball pad will not occur at this time.

Will the existing timber staircase be replaced?

Yes, the existing timber staircase will be replaced due to its poor weathered condition.

The final design proposes a new sawn basalt rock staircase, which is hard wearing and expands from the current location. It will extend further down the hill, linking it to the playspace and Hillcroft Drive.

When will the proposed upgrade take place?

Construction is expected to begin in February 2025 and is expected to take around three months to complete.

Will any of the existing play equipment be retained?

No, all existing play equipment will be replaced with brand new equipment. Originally the mound slide and monkey bars were to be retained, however following community consultation on the concept design, Council received several submissions which shared concerns around the usability and condition of the existing monkey bars and mound slide.

The existing monkey bar set was identified as too high and inaccessible for children (particularly non teens), while the existing mound slide was identified to have significant pooling issues, making it not fit for purpose during certain parts of the year.

Will the proposed rock staircase have a hand rail?

Yes. For the steepest sections of the new staircase (towards Lawanna Drive), a handrail will be provided to assist people on one side. There will also be several landing areas to provide ample resting areas for people while acceding or descending the new staircase.
