Consultation has concluded

Our Governance Rules are currently being reviewed. The Rules guide the conduct of our Council meetings and decision making. They also cover the form and availability or meeting records, how the Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected, conduct during the election period and the procedure for the disclosure of conflicts of interest by Councillors and members of staff.

This review is focusing specifically on the conduct of Council meetings by electronic means. Recent changes to the Local Government Act 2020 will enable councils to hold virtual meetings in accordance with their Governance Rules. We are proposing to make some minor administrative amendments to our Governance Rules to formalise the arrangements that we have in place regarding attendance at Council meetings by electronic means.

Consultation is limited to the proposed amendments outlined in the draft Governance Rules and relate to attendance at Council meetings by electronic means and minor amendments to the Public Question Time provisions to give effect to Council’s current practices. The draft Governance Rules have been prepared in accordance with section 60 of the Local Government Act 2020.

You can find out more about the proposed changes by reading the Council report and draft Governance Rules.

Written submissions on the draft Governance Rules close at 5.00pm on Tuesday 6 September 2022
