Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the concept plan for Gainsborough Reserve in Doncaster East.
We are now upgrading Gainsborough Reserve and have finalised theconcept plan.
Key features include:
New play equipment including play unit, monkey bars and swing
New trees and low planting beds for colour, texture and nature play opportunities
New concrete path
New park seats
Consultation
From August through to December last year, we sought feedback from local residents on the Gainsborough Reserve to help inform a concept plan for a reserve upgrade.
Our engagement included an online community consultation via Your Say Manningham and a letterdrop to neighboring residents.
From the consultation, we heard that:
Open space is valued within a built up area
There is a growing number of children in the area – playing outside is important
The park is currently used to play Frisbee and kick ball
The park is peaceful and local
The park is used by secondary students as walk through
Some of the overall themes of the feedback received included:
Retain grass area to kick ball
Safety and variety of equipment was important
More tree planting
Feedback that has been incorporated into the concept plan, includes:
Removal of table seats to allow for more play equipment
The addition of monkey bars to the play unit
Planting of canopy trees to provide shade
New seating
What we've already done
Local residents were previously consulted on a new carriageway easement which was created in June 2017 as part of stage 1 works. This provided access to many residents who had no open space within walking distance.
Stage 1 works included:
1.5 metre wide pedestrian path between the 7 Daws driveway and the pedestrian path on Nottingwood Street.
recycled plastic bollards (150x150mm) spaced no more than 1.5 metres apart to restrict vehicle access.
new Fingerboard sign on a galvanised pole marking each end of the pedestrian link.
landscaping along the western boundary of Gainsborough Reserve, including low planting, trees and rockwork.
rockwork will supplement bollards in providing a solid vehicular barrier, as well as other planting as it grows.
