Where is it?

Eric Reserve is located on Eric Avenue in Templestowe Lower. It’s a small reserve with a table seat and mature planting and landscaping.

Why is it needed?

Our Open Space Strategy 2014 identified the shortage of local playspaces in Templestowe Lower. This new playground will offer play and recreational activities for the local community.

When is it happening?

  • Community consultation on a draft concept design will be open for feedback until 22 April 2024.
  • The final design will be available by the end of May 2024.
  • Construction is planned to begin in September 2024 and take around four weeks. This schedule is subject to weather and contractor availability.

How will the work affect me?

The reserve will be closed during construction. The nearest alternative park is Sheehans Reserve, 650 metres away at 27 Sheahans Rd, Bulleen VIC 3105.

We will make every effort to minimise any disruption to residents and visitors.

We’re about to begin construction to upgrade Eric Reserve.

Works to build a new playspace will begin in late-October and are expected to take seven weeks to complete.

Workers will be onsite between 7.00am and 5.00pm on weekdays.

You may notice some noise and increased traffic around the reserve during this time.

The reserve will be closed while works are underway and will likely reopen in December, subject to weather conditions.

We recently surveyed the community on the proposed design for a new playspace, seeking community feedback to help us understand who is likely to use the space, what would encourage them to do so, and any suggestions for improvement to the design.

We received 10 responses in total from five contributors, with most supporting the new playspace. Three of the four responses that did not support the playspace came from the same contributor.

In response to the feedback, we have incorporated requests for additional seating, planting, and trees into the design to maximise opportunities for seated supervision and socialising. However, we cannot include the requests for additional facilities such as a fence at the front of the park, community garden beds, bins, a shade sail/shelter, BBQ, flying fox, or trampoline, as they are outside the project’s budget and scope.

The only concerns we received were around including and maintaining a picnic table and the decreased open space for casual sports. However, our Parks Improvement Program and Open Space Strategy 2014 direct the inclusion of these items in our open spaces.
