What is the process for allowing night competition within a reserve?

The process for allowing night competition to be held at a reserve is set out in pages 13 and 14 of Council's Outdoor Sports Infrastructure Guidelines.

Will the club be able to host finals on weeknights?

Major night competitions at the reserve such as finals would not be permitted under this proposal. Any proposal to host finals matches would be subject to a separate application to Council and will be assessed in line with Council’s existing policy in relation to use of sportsgrounds for finals competition.

Will this mean there is more competition held at the reserve?

The weeknight matches are proposed to replace junior matches currently held on weekends at Deep Creek Reserve.

The weeknight matches would be held at times that the club currently uses the reserve for training purposes.

Will this increase the number of weeknights the reserve is in use?

The proposed junior night competition matches would replace current training sessions of the Doncaster Baseball Club.

Under this proposal, the Doncaster Baseball Club would be permitted to host approximately two junior matches at the reserve per week, within their existing allocated use of the reserve.

The club currently has access to use the reserve until 10.00 pm each weeknight (Monday to Friday) for training purposes. Any future junior competition would be required to be completed prior to this time.

    Where will my comments go?

Feedback received will be reviewed by Council’s Parks and Recreation Unit and will help inform Council’s decision on whether night competition matches will be permitted within Deep Creek Reserve.

When will a decision be made?

It is anticipated that a decision on this proposal will be made a Council meeting in July 2017.

    When would the competition start?

If the proposal by Doncaster Basketball Club to host junior night matches is approved by Council, the night competition is anticipated to commence in August/September 2017.
