Feedback on Cat Jump Park Draft Master Plan

Thank you for your feedback.

From May through to June 2022, we sought feedback from local residents to help inform the Draft Cat Jump Park Master Plan and the proposed upgrade for the playground.

This included:

  • online community consultation via Your Say Manningham
  • a 400m radius letter drop to neighbouring residents
  • signs at the entrances to the park and in the playspace.

We received a total of 89 visits to the Your Say page for Cat Jump Park and nine people contributed comments to the forum.

We heard that:

  • the fitness hub is an excellent idea
  • a bicycle skills/pump track would be a good idea
  • a scooter track would be a good idea
  • there is strong support for sealed pathways
  • the path upgrades would be a high priority
  • there is support for retaining sections of gravel path in keeping with the character of the park
  • an opposing soccer goal would be a good idea
  • the basketball and rebound area receives high use
  • the pine forest nature trail and story circle is a popular idea
  • the playground upgrade is well overdue
  • there is support for a picnic shelter and BBQ.

There was mixed feedback on the proposed public toilet. Some residents said it was an overdue facility for the park and others said without a picnic shelter and BBQ facilities it was an unnecessary expenditure. After much consideration, we decided that it would be premature to install toilets until paths have been upgraded and links to the Mullum Mullum Trail have been strengthened. In the interim, there are no plans to install a public toilet, picnic shelter or BBQ.

We investigated the possibility of a pump track circuit close to the active recreation area but we were unable to find ways to safely place the two areas next to one another. This is due to concerns about balls rolling across the pump track or players on the hard courts running onto the pump track. We are considering other parks where this type of facility might be suitable.

How we incorporated your feedback

  • we introduced an opposing soccer goal.
  • we recommended that concrete path entrances be provided at Polaris Drive and Leslie Street and a central concrete path circuit be created which will also link in the playspace and the active recreation area
  • we recommended a secondary system of gravel paths elsewhere in the park for a softer natural character
  • we will delay the construction of the proposed public toilet.

Delivery of the Cat Jump Park Master Plan

The initiatives proposed in the Master Plan will improve the passive recreation opportunities provided in the park. These improvements will be delivered over multiple financial years. The upgrade of the playspace, an upgrade of the multipurpose activity court and the fitness hub will be the first improvements to take place in the 2022/23 financial year.

We will progressively carry out the improvements endorsed through the consultation process as part of our annual capital works program.

First Stage ( 2022/23 )

Thanks to part funding from the Victoria Government's 2022 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, we have been able to bring forward the delivery of the multipurpose activity court and the fitness hub.

The first stage will include:

  • upgrading the existing play space for one-12 year olds
  • upgrading the multipurpose activity court which includes the rebound wall, basketball and netball half courts
  • installing a new fitness hub for a range of ages.

Future stages

  • upgrading the soccer goal area
  • installing a new forest nature trail and story circle
  • constructing new paths and upgrading existing paths
  • providing additional seating along paths and at key locations.
