Why are we undertaking a naming process?
The Victorian Registrar of Geographic Names (the Registrar) assisted by Geographic Names Victoria (GNV) administers the Geographic Place Names Act 1998 (the Act) and is responsible for reviewing the naming and registration of all roads, features, and localities in Victoria to ensure compliance with the Naming Rules.
Council as the relevant naming authority is responsible for developing a naming proposal for Bulleen Park new features and submitting it to Geographic Names Victoria for approval and registration for places covered by the legislation.
The Naming Rules, which are based on national standards help to ensure that features are named in a standardised way, to avoid confusion, errors and discrimination. This is vital for assisting emergency services and ensuring public safety.
How does a naming process work?
Following consultation with our community and key stakeholders, Manningham, as the naming authority for naming of Council owned and managed reserves, will make a submission to Geographic Names Victoria with names and supporting documentation.
The Registrar of Geographic Names has the authority to endorse and enter a name in VICNAMES.

Who can submit their inspiration?
Consultation is a key element of the naming process and Council recognises the importance of community feedback through community awareness and public consultation.
The consultation is open to anyone, however we have primarily reached out to our community who have an association to Bulleen Park, including our sporting and community groups that use the park, surrounding businesses and schools and those in our community who use Bulleen Park for leisure or exercise.
What happens after the consultation closes?
At the end of the initial consultation with our community, we will review all feedback and make a submission to the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung for their consultation. The selected names will then be submitted to Geographic Names Victoria (GNV) for approval. Once approved, we will share these names with our community for feedback.
