We're naming the unnamed laneway between Robert and Helene Streets in Bulleen. The new laneway will address two new properties created from the subdivision of land at 48 Templestowe Road in Bulleen.

We recently held a public consultation on the proposal to name the laneway ‘Kiln Lane’ in recognition of the area’s brickmaking past. The former Bulleen Brickworks was located nearby on Templestowe Road, which contained two large kilns and chimneys.

After receiving valuable community feedback during the consultation, we've decided not to proceed with the name Kiln Lane. This, in part, was due to some concerns raised regarding the difficulty in spelling and correctly hearing the word Kiln, particularly over the phone.

We are now proposing a new name for the laneway, 'Brickmakers Lane'. This name was suggested by the community during the public consultation process and maintains ties to the area’s brickmaking past. 'Brickmakers Lane' complies with Victoria's naming rules for places.

Have your say

We’re seeking community feedback to support, object or comment on the proposed name.

Complete our feedback form by 5.00pm on Friday 16 August 2024.

All submissions will be considered before we progress the naming process and formally lodge the proposed road name with Geographic Names Victoria.

We will share the outcomes of the consultation with you via this project page.

We’re proposing to name the laneway ‘Kiln Lane’, in recognition of the area’s brickmaking past – previously home to the Bulleen Brickworks, located nearby on Templestowe Road. Established by Glen Iris Bricks in the 1950s, the brickworks was taken over by Boral Bricks in 1970 before closing down in the late 1900s.

Complete our feedback form by 5.00pm on Friday 7 June 2024.
